How to Disable Google Fonts in WordPress

Why Disable Google Fonts on Your WordPress Website?

The typography used on a WordPress website plays a significant role in its design and brand identity, which is why many website owners customize their typography by using Google Fonts. However, using too many fonts can have a negative impact on WordPress performance, and it is recommended to limit the number of fonts to two that can be used across the website.

Alternatively, disabling Google Fonts altogether and using system fonts that come with the user’s computer can improve loading speed, especially for users with slow internet connections. Disabling Google Fonts can also help ensure compliance with international privacy laws like GDPR by addressing privacy concerns. While disabling Google Fonts may not be suitable for all business websites or blogs, it can provide a better user experience for visitors from areas with poor internet quality. Therefore, in this article, we will explore how to disable Google Fonts on a WordPress website.

Disabling Google Fonts in WordPress Using a Plugin

To disable Google Fonts on your WordPress website, you can use the “Disable and Remove Google Fonts” plugin. After installing and activating the plugin, it will automatically disable all Google Fonts used by your theme and plugins, without the need for configuration.

As a result, WordPress will utilize default fonts instead of any previously used Google Fonts. However, it is advisable to check your website carefully to ensure that you are satisfied with the new fonts being utilized.

Disabling Google Fonts in OptinMonster

OptinMonster is a lead-generation plugin used by over 1.2 million websites to grow their email list, increase sales, and get more leads. However, it uses Google Fonts by default, which can be easily disabled.

To disable Google Fonts in individual OptinMonster campaigns, log in to your Campaign Dashboard, select a campaign, click the Edit Campaign button, go to the Settings icon, select the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Display Settings section, and toggle Enable web fonts? to the off position.

To disable Google Fonts for all OptinMonster campaigns at once, use the WPCode plugin. Install and activate the plugin, go to Code Snippets » Headers & Footer, paste the code snippet in the Header field, and click the Save Changes button.
