Are you looking to modify the size of Gravatar images on your WordPress website?

Gravatar is a service that associates user email addresses with profile pictures. While WordPress themes typically display Gravatars at a predefined size, you may want to adjust these dimensions to align with your website’s design.

This article will guide you through the process of resizing Gravatar images in WordPress.

Why Change the Gravatar Image Size in WordPress?

Gravatar, short for Globally Recognized Avatar, is a web service that enables users to create profiles and associate avatar images with their email addresses.

In most WordPress themes, Gravatars are displayed alongside user comments and sometimes in author bio boxes. Even if a user does not have a Gravatar account, WordPress will display one of the default Gravatars.

There are instances where you may want to adjust the size of Gravatars in your theme. For instance, you might prefer to make them larger to increase visibility and draw attention to the comment section, thereby encouraging more engagement and comments on your WordPress posts.

In the following sections, we will explore different methods to change the Gravatar image size on your WordPress site. You can use the quick links below to navigate to the specific method you wish to use:

Method 1: Change Gravatar Size Using the WordPress Full-Site Editor (Block Themes Only) Method 2: Change Gravatar Size for WordPress Comments (Works With All Themes) Method 3: How to Change Gravatar Size for Author Bios

Method 1: Change Gravatar Size Using the WordPress Full-Site Editor (Block Themes Only)

If you are using a block-based theme such as ThemeIsle Hestia Pro or Twenty Twenty-Three, you have the option to modify the Gravatar size using the full-site editor.

Please note that this method is applicable only to block-enabled themes. If your current theme does not support blocks, we recommend using method 2 instead.

To begin, navigate to the WordPress dashboard and select “Appearance” » “Editor”.

From the menu on the left-hand side, choose the template or template part you wish to edit.

To adjust the Gravatar size for WordPress comments, select “Template Parts” from the left-hand menu.

Next, locate and click on “Comments”.

Now, you can select the Comments template part.

A new menu will appear, offering settings to customize the comments template part.

To modify the Gravatar size, simply click on any of the Gravatars in the live preview.

As you adjust the slider, all Gravatars will automatically update, allowing you to experiment with different sizes and choose the one that best suits your needs.

Once you are satisfied with the changes you have made, click on the “Save” button to apply them.
